  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2/3 cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9-inch round cake pan.
  • In a saucepan, melt butter and stir in Guinness and cocoa powder until smooth. Let cool.
  • In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  • Beat eggs, sour cream, and vanilla together, then add to the cooled Guinness mixture.
  • Combine the wet ingredients with the dry, mixing until just combined.
  • Pour batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let cool before removing from the pan and frost or dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

  • Ensure the Guinness mixture cools before adding the eggs to prevent scrambling.
  • This cake pairs well with cream cheese frosting or a simple chocolate ganache.
